As well as structured lessons with your teacher an important part of studying a language is through active learning. Therefore we encourage all students to get involved in as many activities as possible during their stay to practise different English language skills in real situations. This could involve playing games, singing, dancing, cooking, shopping, sightseeing, tennis, bowling, cycling, golf or fossil hunting, sailing etc. Some activities may involve an additional charge, please ask for details.
The West Dorset area offers a great range of different things to do, from delicious local food and drink, to art festivals, concerts and performances to suit any taste, there is always something new to do.
We are about 5 minutes from the Jurassic coast which is a World Heritage Site. The area is famous for fossil hunting walks. West Dorset is rich in art and art history with local art centres and theatres provide a vibrant performing and literary arts programme. There are many historic houses and gardens to visit and good local exhibitions.
There are many good places to eat out from award winning restaurants to quaint tea rooms, together with traditional English pubs where you can enjoy locally produced food and beer. A farmers food market is held regularly in the local market town of Bridport.
Fossil Hunting on the Jurassic Coast
The Jurassic coast is a world heritage site and the beaches are world famous for the amazing fossils that can be found washed out of the cliffs. You can go on one of the fossil talks and fossil hunting excursions, you can keep any fossils you find. Please ask for details.
Sailing for Children and Adults
Sailing for beginners or for the more experienced sailor can be included as part of your course. Sailing courses are available where the 2012 Olympic sailing events will be held. Please ask for details.
Jurassic Coast
We are about 1 mile from the Jurassic Coast which is a World Heritage Site. The area is famous for fossil hunting and collecting walks with the beaches of Charmouth and Lyme Regis providing the ideal location. The dinosaur museum and fossil centres show the history of this fascinating area.
Arts and Crafts
West Dorset is rich in art and art history. Local arts centres and theatres provide a vibrant performing, visual and literary arts programme. There are many historic houses and gardens to visit and good local exhibitions.
Food and Drink
There are many good places to eat out from award winning restaurants to quaint tea rooms. There are good traditional English pubs where you can enjoy locally produced beer and food. There are many food and drink festivals held throughout the year, with a farmers market held regularly in the local market town of Bridport
2012 Olympic Games
The 2012 Olympic Games sailing events will be held here. The preparation for the games has already started. A visit to the sailing academy in Weymouth is worthwhile. Other sports available are tennis, golf, cycling, swimming, fishing, diving, football, coastal walking etc.
